Channeling: A deeper understanding

July 2025 – When you hear the word channeling, do you picture someone eccentric in a trance, speaking in a strange voice beckoning a dark spirit in a gloomy room? That Hollywood image is so dramatic. The reality is that channeling is far more grounded, satisfying, and comforting. Channeling is a deeply intuitive and accessible spiritual practice that many people employ to get guidance, healing, or insight.

What Is Channeing? Understanding the Basics. Channeling is the practice of receiving messages, guidance, or energy from a source beyond your everyday awareness. Think of it like tuning into a spiritual radio frequency—except instead of music, you receive wisdom, insight, or energy.

Channeling versus Other Practices. Meditation cultivates inner stillness. While channeling involves receiving and interpreting external guidance or energy. Psychic readings often focus on energy or future events. While channeling connects your higher self.

While channeling can be a valuable tool for personal insight and spiritual growth, it is not a substitute for professional medical, psychological, or psychiatric care. A channeler’s offerings are complementary to—not replacements for—traditional forms of care. They are intended to empower individuals by helping them connect with their own inner guidance and powers.

Channelers believe that they connect with sources such as:

  • Spirit Guides – Loving, non-physical beings who offer support
  • Higher Self – The wise, expanded version of you
  • Angels or Divine Beings – Spiritual messengers
  • Ascended Masters – Enlightened teachers like Jesus or Buddha
  • Loved Ones Who’ve Passed – Souls who have transitioned

Some Types of Channeling

Trance Channeling. In trance channeling, the individual enters a deeply altered state of consciousness, allowing another presence or higher intelligence to speak through them. This may result in noticeable changes in voice, posture, or energy. Notable trance channelers include Edgar Cayce, Jane Roberts (Seth), and Esther Hicks (Abraham).

Conscious Channeling (or Intuitive Channeling). With conscious or intuitive channeling, the individual remains fully aware and receives insights through feelings, inner knowing, or clear inner dialogue. This accessible form of channeling aligns well with meditation, journaling, and mindfulness practices—making it a popular choice for everyday spiritual connection.

Energy Channeling. Energy channeling involves the transmission of healing energy through the hands or body. Practices such as Reiki, pranic healing, and chakra balancing fall under this category. These techniques help restore emotional, physical, and energetic harmony.
